Discussing in detail his work on Sapho, saying he has completely recomposed Alcée's ode with new words and given it a patriotic color and form, describing the other changes he has made, saying he has also written the song of "Pytheas dans le banquet," with which Mme Viardot is "très frappée et enchantée," as she is by the Alcée's aria, saying he now has the first part of Sapho's ode and the cantabile of Phaon's aria the begins the third act--Roger is very, very pleased with it--, mentioning Viardot's success in [Meyerbeer's] Prophète, asking him to greet Mr. Hullah; with a musical example.
